Email Configuration

Email applications need to be configured so that they can receive mail and they also need to be configured so they can send mail. Because these are separate functions, you may need to use different servers or even different ISPs (internet service providers) for each function. The server used to receive mail is called a POP (Post Office Protocol) server. The server used to send mail is called an SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server.

FieldCo customers can use their FieldCo server as both their POP and SMTP server. To configure your email for FieldCo, you must specify six key pieces of information. These are: name, POP server, SMTP server, user id, email address, and password.

Some ISPs, like Bell Sympatico, require users to send mail through their own server, not FieldCo's. If that is the case for your ISP, simply enter your ISP's SMTP mail server information (server, username, and password) when configuring your outgoing mail information. Be sure to keep your FieldCo account information for your POP mail server or else you won't be able to get your FieldCo-hosted email.

This page describes how to configure your email application to send and receive mail. If you are looking for information on how to configure spam filerters, visit our spam filter configuration page.

Quick Start Information (for advanced users)

Our "incoming" server is a POP mail server. Our "outgoing" mail server is an SMTP server that requires authentication prior to sending. SSL is not currently supported for POP or SMTP.

Basic Instructions (for everyone else)

Instructions for setting up your account for use with popular mail clients are listed below. If you do not see your client, please let us know and it will be added. Meanwhile, try to follow the instructions of a client you know to be similar and you should be successful.

For most users, their user id is not the same as the first part of their email address (before the @). However if your user id happens to be the same, that is not a problem at all.
